Mr. Walter Rae Jones, Sr. was born September 2, 1967 to the late Rebecca Jones and Joseph Greene in Baton Rouge, LA. He graduated from Vidalia High School in 1986 and attended Grambling State University. He was employed by the City of Vidalia until his death. Walter was baptized at an early age. He was a faithful member of Greater Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church until his death. He was also a member of Tri-Stone Lodge #137 where he served as Junior Warden. He was also a 32* (degree) Mason of Abraham "Consistory" of Boyce, LA. Walter was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan as well as a die-hard Grambling State Tigers fan. During his spare time, he enjoyed playing flag football, where his teammates better knew him as "Jiggy". Preceding Walter in death are his mother, father, and sister Isabella Washington Bernard. Walter leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 25 years, Velisha L. (Barksdale) Jones of Vidalia, LA, two daughters, Maudrella and Marquitta Jones of Grambling, La, one son Walter Jones, Jr. also of Grambling, LA, and one god-daughter, Mariah White, of Fort Worth, TX. Two sisters, Mary Jackson and Barbara Anne Jones both of Natchez, MS. Three brothers, Clarence Jones, Jr. and Joseph Jones, Sr. both of Natchez, MS and Kyle Jones of Baton Rouge, LA. Three sisters-in-law, Vanessa Barksdale of Vidalia, LA, Versie Okonji of Fort Worth, TX, and Vickie Smith of Ferriday, LA, along with a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
